The Child’s First Steps Into Destiny
Ikọṣédaiyé and Éséntàyé are sacred Yoruba ceremonies performed to understand and bless a child’s journey on earth. These rites mark the moment when a newborn is spiritually introduced to the world, their destiny is consulted, and their path is opened with guidance and protection.
Éséntàyé, meaning “stepping into the world,” is traditionally performed on the third day after birth, when the child is believed to fully enter earthly existence. Through divination, elders seek insight into the child’s ori, their destiny, and whether they carry the spirit of an ancestor returning to complete unfinished work.

Ìgbéyawó is the traditional Yoruba wedding ceremony. Baba Teju-Ajala brings the traditional ceremony to the contemporary world in the diaspora. All necessary offerings, prayers and divinations would be done to commemorate the union of marriage.

Isinku/ Titu Oku is the African traditional burial rite of the Yoruba people and the Isésé Ifá/ Òrìṣà tradition. The process is done as a way of freeing the soul, allowing the spirit of our loved ones to return home and be welcomed to take their seat amongst our ancestors. The rite can be seamlessly interwoven into a contemporary funeral service or done independently. This rite is extended into "Titu Oku" for those who have undergone initiation and have received shrines. Titu Oku is the funerary performed by the priest that helps in determining the ceremonious disposition of shrines and other spiritual tools that would be left behind. The process includes the making of necessary divinations and offerings.

In this course, Àwọs receive the knowledge needed for them to move forward as competent spiritualists and priests in the tradition, laying the groundwork for continued elevation.
